Sure, selfish doesn’t sound like a compliment. But some days I would call myself a selfish persona anyway.
Because I put my needs above others. I choose to care for myself and give my body and mind what it needs, even if that means putting my husband, children, friends or family below my own needs.
Does this make me selfish? Maybe. But not in a bad way. It is “positive selfishness”.
When I look after myself, I think I am a better human being. Rather than give and give and give until I have nothing left (which I used…
I recently published an article that didn’t take off. It had barely any reads, claps or comments. It was published in Mind|Body|Soul where I have previously had success and I thought it was a great article!
The gist of the article was questioning and exploring why we struggle to ask for help. I especially find it hard to admit when I need help.
Was I too raw and honest?
Was I not honest enough?
Is it because of Mediums new algorithm that has changed the home page? …
If you are anything like me, you like to plan and organize. To have everything fall into neat little checkboxes and go smooth sailing. I love my checklists and to-do lists. I love my plans. And so, when it came to creating our birth plan, I was in heaven.
Plan A. Check
Plan B. Check.
Plan C. Check.
In reality, my first-time labor did not go according to any plan. Not A, B, or C!
I vomited for 12 hours; I cried. I yelled and swore a bit too. I am pretty sure I probably pooped.
It was nothing like…
A Warrnambool Secondary School asked all boys to stand up at assembly as a “symbolic gesture of apology for the behaviours of their gender”. They had to apologise to the females at the assembly for the wrongs done on behalf of their gender.
What on earth was this school thinking?
I am all for creating equality.
My partner and I go to great lengths to teach our children (we have a son and a daughter) that they are equal in all things. We are careful to avoid gender stereotypes. We encourage our children to pursue their passions and interests, no…
I still clearly remember the day I discovered freelance writing.
I had just returned to work after maternity leave. I was finding it super hard to be back at shift work. I would fight back tears every time I had to leave my 9-month-old son at childcare or with my partner and go off to work.
I was lucky that I did not have to go back to full-time work, as I know plenty of parents do.
My hubby and I had sat down, discussed our finances, and worked out a budget so I only had to go back to…
People have an idyllic impression of what a Freelance Work-At-Home-Mum (WAHM) is all about.
Some people believe it is easy work. Staying in your pyjamas until lunchtime with your children playing nicely whilst you tap away at your computer. Or drinking coffee whilst working at a café after school drop off.
The reality is far from this. Or at least it is for me!
It is children vying for my attention whilst working to deadlines. Takeaway for dinner more often than I would like to admit. Piles of laundry waiting to be washed or folded. …
I am starting a new writing challenge on the 1st of May. It is the one taking Medium by storm, first developed by David Majister.
If you haven’t read about it yet, here’s a link to the original challenge.
The rules are pretty simple.
Write an article a day for 30 days and submit each one to a different publication.
30 days. 30 articles. 30 DIFFERENT publications. OMG! What have I got myself into?
I am aiming for the stars with this challenge.
I am going all out, making a solid plan and this time I will stick to it!
Thanks Mary for some great advice!
I am currently drafting up a pledge post for the 30 day challenge, and cannot wait to get started. I was reluctant at first as the idea of submitting to 30 different publications was intimidating....still is, really! It opens me up to being rejected by 30 different people! However, I decided to take the plunge and push myself harder.
Like you, when I delved into what I had already published and where I have already been accepted as a writer I realised I had many options! Hopefully I will add quite a few more by the end.
Goodluck! I am just writing my pledge post for this 30-day challenge and am so excited. I look forward to following your journey. :)
